Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

There’s nothing more frustrating than stepping into your vehicle after a long day and discovering that the key fob battery is dead. Fortunately, this is an easy fix using a simple battery replacement from an electronics store or big box retailer.

A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive alternative to not having to take it to a dealership to have them re-program your keys.

mazda 6 key in the Mazda 3 key fob is a simple process that you can perform at home. However, you should replace the battery if it goes out of service, or if the key fob shows a message on the multi-information display saying, “Low key fob battery. Replace battery.”

You’ll need to use a flathead screwdriver with tape and patience to open the case. Put the head of the flathead screwdriver into a notch, or gap, on the bottom metal of the Mazda 3 key fob to remove the lower part. Repeat the procedure for the top metal piece, but be sure not to damage the rubber ring that is on the bottom of the case.

There’s a slot each side of the fob case that houses the battery. Start on the opposite side of the case, and then gently pry it open. Remove the battery that was used and place in a new CR2025 ensure that it’s facing upwards to ensure the correct polarity. Finally, place the cap back on and then reattach both sides of the key fob’s case, pressing until you hear them click.

After replacing the battery After replacing the battery, lock and unlock your doors to ensure that the fob is working. If everything seems to be in good order you’re good to go. Mazda 3 remote features can be used again.

    Pairing Issues

If your key fob stops working suddenly it could mean that the transmitter in the car is damaged. It is typically a need for an expert to repair it and may require a new key fob.

If you’ve tried replacing the battery and reprogramming the key fob but has not solved the problem it is possible the chip inside the key fob is malfunctioning. This could be the case if the keyfob was dropped or exposed to saltwater or was touched by dirty fingers.

To determine the cause of the issue it is necessary to locate a small “key” located in the edge of the fob that lets you open it and take out the circuit board. Then, you can check the electronic chip for damage or corrosion. To avoid damaging the chip, it’s recommended to clean the chip with a new paper towel.

If you’re not sure then you should also examine the battery connector terminals for cracks, or breaks. If this is the case, then carefully attaching them back can often restore the function of the key fob. You can also inspect the buttons for wear or damage. If they are loose, they can be soldered back into position, unless they’ve physically snapped.

    Interference Signals

There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to get the engine started in your vehicle and getting the message “No Fob Detected”. It can happen at the most unfavorable occasions, such as when you’re late to work or you’re trying to collect your children from daycare/school. There are a few things you can do to help figure out what’s causing the issue.

Interference signals can affect the remote key fob signal from the vehicle and cause it to not function properly. This could be caused by objects like weather conditions, buildings, and transmitters that use the same frequency. Interference can also occur when you have aftermarket equipment installed in the vehicle that transmits on the same frequency as the key fob.

In addition, if the key fob is exposed to salt or the water, it might be damaged. The rubber seals on the electronic chip could be shattered by water, especially when it is submerged for an extended period of time such as in a swimming pool or at the beach. The chip may cease to function and may require replacement of the keyfob. If you have a key which can be programmed to work, you can clean it using isopropyl or electronic cleaners to bring it back to its original function. If this does not help the chip, it is likely fried and will need to be replaced.

    Locking/Unlocking the Doors

The buttons on the key fob send electronic signals to the solenoid of the car, which then converts this signal into mechanical action. This locks and unlocks doors. If the door lock is not working, the issue could be a solenoid issue that requires some investigation by a professional auto repair shop.

A dead 12 volt battery could also hinder the fob from functioning effectively. This could happen if the battery is unable to charge or if the contactors become corroded and stop conducting electricity. This issue can be solved in minutes with a new battery.

The receiver module could be the problem if the key fob doesn’t work after you replace the battery or program the device. The device detects radio frequency signals sent by the key fob to control the vehicle. It could be a costly repair if it malfunctions.

To determine if this is true, put your spare key in the key slot. Then, turn the ignition on. Press the key fob two times in a period of 10 seconds, without taking it out. The Mazda 3 system synchronizes the key to the vehicle, and you can now use it as your primary driving remote. You can program up to three keys in this way.
